Holiday in the Zillertal Valley

Located in the heart of Tyrol, the Zillertal Valley is one of Austria’s most famous and popular holiday regions. Around 40 kilometres east of Innsbruck, the valley branches off from the Inn Valley and stretches for approximately 47 kilometres to Mayrhofen. From there, the impressive side valleys of Zillergrund, Zemmgrund, Stilluptal and Tuxertal unfold – true natural paradises surrounded by the Tyrolean Alps.

Encircled by majestic three-thousand-metre peaks as well as the mountain worlds of the Tux Alps and the Zillertal Alps, the Zillertal captivates visitors with unique panoramas and unforgettable nature experiences. The highest mountain in the region is the Hochfeiler at 3,509 metres, which is also the highest peak in the Zillertal Alps.

The Zillertal consists of 25 municipalities with around 35,000 inhabitants and takes its name from the River Ziller, which flows through the valley from south to north before joining the River Inn at Strass in Tyrol. One of the region’s unique features can still be seen today in its church towers: on the left side of the Ziller, the towers are predominantly topped in red, while on the right side they are green – a historic reminder of the former diocesan divisions between Innsbruck and Salzburg.

The Zillertal is often referred to as the “Valley of Music” and delights visitors with authentic Tyrolean traditions, warm hospitality and a wide range of leisure activities. In summer, countless hiking trails, mountain bike routes and alpine adventures await amidst the breathtaking mountain scenery. In winter, modern ski resorts with hundreds of kilometres of slopes offer perfect conditions for skiers and snowboarders alike.

In addition to nature and sports, the Zillertal also offers numerous cultural highlights, events and attractions for the whole family. Traditional festivals, concerts, museums, adventure worlds and cosy mountain huts ensure varied and memorable holidays in Tyrol throughout the year.
